Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has undergone a successful cataract operation in Delhi, months after receiving a kidney transplant, his family has said.

Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has undergone a successful cataract operation in Delhi, his daughter and MP, Misa Bharti, has confirmed.

In a post on social media on Saturday, Bharti said the surgery was completed without complications and expressed gratitude to the doctors and medical staff involved in the procedure. Yadav had been suffering from cataracts for several months. “By the grace of God, my father’s cataract surgery has been successfully completed under the expert supervision of Dr Mahipal Sachdev at Centre for Sight,” Bharti wrote, thanking the hospital staff and well-wishers for their support and prayers.

Yadav, 77, has been in Delhi for several days with his wife, Rabri Devi, and other family members. Following the surgery, doctors have advised a period of rest and precautions to prevent infection, according to people familiar with the matter. Family members said he is expected to return to Patna after a short recovery period.

The cataract procedure came months after Yadav underwent a kidney transplant, making this his second major medical intervention in recent times. Cataract surgery is generally considered routine and is performed under close medical supervision.

Yadav, a central figure in Bihar’s politics for decades, has faced a series of health issues in recent years and has largely stayed away from active political campaigning.
