Do you think that since you have perfect vision, there’s no need to have regular check-ups with an eye doctor? Think again….. you could be wrong there. According to the studies, everyone over the age of 40 must undergo eye examination at least one in a year including those who have perfect vision. A number of diseases, including some that can even lead to blindness, may not have any noticeable symptoms. They can only be detected by an eye doctor during a check-up. Here are some specific health issues and diseases that could get missed in absence of a proper eye checkup with an eye specialist. Glaucoma Open-angle glaucoma, the most common form, shows no symptoms, so you may not notice something is wrong until you’ve already lost significant vision but only an eye doctor can detect and diagnose glaucoma, which is the leading cause of vision loss. High Blood Pressure If you’re not seeing your primary doctor often, eye doctors can test for high blood pressure and hypertension, which have been found to affect your vision. Hypertension has been linked to issues with the retina that can prematurely impact your sight. Diabetes With high blood pressure, by looking closely at the blood vessels of the eye doctors regularly check for diabetes. Diabetes shows no visible symptoms and can lead to a number of health issues including diabetic retinopathy and vision loss. Prevention is always better than cure and rather than just resting in the belief of a perfect vision you must get a regular screening done for early detection of any potential disease.
