LASIK eye surgery is the most popular  treatment for vision problems. Over the past years, the outcome of undergoing a LASIK surgery has been incredible for various patients. The procedure has assured the betterment of patient’s eyesight. However, a majority of people have various misconceptions about the surgery due to the misinformation spread across the internet and among people. As a result, a large number of people suffering vision problems avoid the surgery. Are you one of them too? If it is so then, it is important for you to know that LASIK is a safe and effective surgical treatment to correct vision problems. The success rate of the surgery is high and treatment is reliable. The surgical procedure is simple and takes a maximum of 30 minutes. The impact of the treatment is visible immediately post surgery. Thus, the surgery is the best way to treat eyesight problems and, the misconceptions are mere myths. Here is a list of five most believed myths about LASIK eye surgery a person should not believe. 1)       The effect of the surgery is not permanent People believe that the effect of LASIK surgery wears off after a span of 10 years. It is just a myth. The surgery is a permanent solution to treat eyesight problem. However, it would be wrong to believe that it restricts the fading of eyesight which occurs with ageing. Naturally, the eyesight begins to slightly fade post the age of 40. And, it may so even if a person undergoes the LASIK surgery during the early age of the life. 2)       The procedure is extremely painful The statement that LASIK is a painful surgery is simply a misconception. The fact is, LASIK is a convenient way of correcting vision problems. Before the beginning of the surgical procedure, mild sedatives and anaesthesia are used to numb the eyes. Thus, the procedure does not cause pain. However, slight discomfort might be temporarily felt post treatment. Nothing to worry about, it is a common and non-perilous after effect. 3)       The surgery cannot cure astigmatism and hyperopia It is a popular myth that LASIK surgery can only treat the problem of nearsightedness and, it cannot treat hyperopia that is farsightedness and astigmatism. The assumption became popular during the initial years of the establishment of the surgery. It happened because at that time the treatment was mostly used to cure nearsightedness. However, a lot has changed over the years and the fact is that LASIK can treat all types of refractive errors. 4)       LASIK is very expensive The statement would hold a significant reality if said a few years ago. Earlier, the surgical treatment had been considerably expensive for various economic groups. However, with the passage of time, the cost of the surgery has gradually declined. Due to technological advancement, the technique of the surgery has become more obtainable. Thus, the procedure has become far more affordable. 5)       It might lead to complete blindness People often refuse to undergo the surgery due to this myth. They believe that if any complication may occur during the procedure, it would lead them to complete blindness. The procedure uses a cool beam of the laser to create a corneal flap. The truth is that the laser is incapable of harming the inner eye. Thus, it does not lead to blindness.
