Eligibility for SMILE Eye Surgery

Most patients, when looking for refractive correction solutions, ask: ?Am I eligible for SMILE Eye Surgery?? Below are the common eligibility checks for SMILE eye surgery :

• Age & stable power: Above 18 years of age with stable glasses number for the last 6 months.
• Power range: SMILE is commonly used for myopia (minus power) up to -10.00D and astigmatism up to -5.00D, as advised by the surgeon.
• Corneal thickness and shape: Corneal mapping and thickness (minimum required 500 microns) tests help plan the procedure safely.
• Overall eye health: You should not have an active eye infection or inflammation, and your doctor may recommend other options if you have certain corneal diseases, uncontrolled glaucoma, or significant retinal problems.

Note: Your doctor will confirm whether SMILE is suitable for you during the evaluation.

SMILE Eye Surgery Process

Step 1: Numbing drops: Anaesthetic eye drops are used for comfort. Step 2: Eyelid holder: A gentle holder keeps the eye from blinking. Step 3: Laser creates lenticule: A femtosecond laser forms a disc-shaped lenticule inside the cornea. Step 4: Small incision: The surgeon creates a small corneal opening. Step 5: Lenticule removal: The lenticule is removed through the incision to reshape the cornea and correct power.

Recovery After SMILE Eye Surgery

Most people feel comfortable quickly after a SMILE, and vision usually starts clearing early, but small ups and downs can still happen in the first few weeks. Follow-ups matter because they confirm healing and make sure everything is settling as expected. What SMILE eye surgery recovery looks like:

• First 24?48 hours: Mild watering, irritation, and light sensitivity can happen, and many notice clearer vision by the next day.
• First week: Vision becomes more consistent, but night glare can still happen in some patients.
• 2?4 weeks: Visual sharpness and comfort usually improve further as the tear film stabilises.
• 1?3 months: Vision feels steadier, especially for night driving and long screen days.
