Prof. Dr Mahipal S Sachdev (Padma Shri Awardee), Chairman and Medical
Director, Centre for Sight and President, All India Ophthalmological Society
was honoured with Padma Shri award on January 26, 2007. In the year 2017,
he attained professorship in ophthalmology.
He is a renowned ophthalmic surgeon who is recognized for his expertise
in the area of corneal, refractive & cataract surgery, both nationally
and internationally. He is widely credited to be a pioneer in India in
propagating the technique of phacoemulsification for cataract surgery and
LASIK laser for removal of glasses. Professor Sachdev pursued his medical
education at the graduate and postgraduate level from All India Institute
of Medical Sciences. He later joined AIIMS as a faculty member. In the
year 1989, he took up a fellowship at the Georgetown University, Washington
DC to master the latest in ophthalmology.
In 1996, Professor Mahipal Sachdev stepped out of AIIMS with a dream of
creating a world-class eye hospital. “Centre for Sight” is an outcome of
that. CFS offers state-of-the-art medical facilities to the citizens of
India at a fraction of the cost elsewhere in the world, ensuring “patients
safety”, “expertise”, and “technology”.
Professor Mahipal is a visionary and leader. He has always been the torchbearer
in the field of eye care pioneering several procedures including laser-assisted
surgery for cataract and LASIK. Prof. Mahipal was among the first to introduce
LASIK and phakic IOLs & Femtosecond laser technology for LASIK. Professor
Mahipal also has pioneered blade-free femto cataract technology in India.
He has been active in imparting surgical training to the larger ophthalmic
community. He has conducted several live surgery demonstrations in the
remotest locations of India to teach and popularize the technique of sutureless
cataract surgery. In the year 1999, he was inducted to the Summit Autonomous
Society USA, which recognizes leading refractive surgeons globally.
He is the Indian representative at the Asia Refractive Council and has
been active in various international symposia and conferences, where he
has conducted courses and presented over 150 papers. He has authored over
5 books on cataract & refractive surgery, today referred to by every budding
ophthalmologist. Professor Mahipal is an active contributor of articles
on eye health in mass media for the benefit of the general public also.
Professor Mahipal S. Sachdev has received numerous awards and distinctions
in India and abroad for his contribution to ophthalmology. Prof. Mahipal
has also received the “Lifetime achievement award- ophthalmology” at Times
Healthcare Achievers program held in Delhi. He is a rare combination of
a brilliant surgeon, an entrepreneur, and above all, a compassionate human
being. He has ensured that the Indian flag remains flying high in the domain
of eye care and that the patients in India have access to the best and
the latest when it comes to treating their eyes in line with his own mission
statement “every eye deserves the best”.
Dr Alka Sachdev is a medical graduate from Delhi University. She has a
rich experience of more than 30 years in medicine. She is responsible for
handling the overall operations of the company.
Mr Shimant Chadha is a qualified Chartered Accountant with experience
of more than 20 years in the banking and finance industries. Before joining
Centre for Sight, he worked with GE Capital Services, India as Head of
Commercial Lending – Midsize and with ABN AMRO Bank as the Head of Healthcare
Dr. Roop did his graduation from All India Institute of Medical Sciences,
New Delhi and post-graduation from Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic
Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi. A leading cataract surgeon of West Uttar Pradesh,
Dr. Roop was one of the first surgeons to adapt Femtosecond Laser technology
for cataract in the country. Recognized for his innovative techniques in
the ophthalmic fraternity, Dr. Roop has been awarded runners’ up award
for video on cataract surgery technique of circumferential chopping at
American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2008. He has presented
several films depicting newer techniques of cataract and glaucoma surgery
in international forum. Winner of special Gold Medal awarded by Intraocular
Implant and Refractive Society of India (IIRSI).
Dr. Ritika has completed her MBBS from Lady Hardinge Medical College and
MS in surgery from Maulana Azad Medical College and Senior Residency from
R P Centre, AIIMS, Delhi. She is presently working as Additional Director
Medical Services at Centre for Sight. She has been awarded the Dr. Krishna
Sohan Trophy 2013, Intra Ocular and Refractive Society India Gold Medal
(Hony.) Brig. Dr. Arvind Lal, Independent Director, has been conferred
an Honorary Brigadier’s rank in the Armed Forces Medical Services by the
President of India and is recipient of the Padma Shri award. He holds a
bachelor’s degree in medicine and a bachelor’s degree in surgery from the
University of Poona and a diploma in clinical pathology from the Armed
Forces Medical College, Pune. He has over 40 years of experience in the
field of pathology and acts as the Chairman and Managing Director of Dr.
Lal Pathlabs Limited.
Mr Asish Mohapatra, Independent Director, holds a bachelor’s degree in
technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and a master’s
degree in business administration from the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
He has previously been associated with ITC Limited and McKinsey & Co. He
was also associated with Matrix Partners India Investments Holdings LLC
which is one of the renowned investment firms. He has recently entered
into entrepreneurship and is now holding a Directorship in OFB Tech Private
Mr. Parag is the Managing Partner of Mahindra Partners. With a career
span of 20 years, has held various positions within the Mahindra Group.
Parag comes with an extensive background and 20 years of experience in
building new businesses, start-ups, JVs, merger and acquisition. He is
a Director on several Mahindra Group & Portfolio companies including
Centre for Sight. Along with the Mahindra Group and companies, Parag also
is an Executive Committee member of various councils of Mahindra Learning
University. He is the Group lead for business representation in Israel.
He is also an Independent Director on the board of HDFC AMC Ltd. Parag
is one of the chief Architects of Mahindra Partners adapting innovation,
creativity and new ventures for the Group. Prior to the current roles and
responsibilities, Parag was the Managing Director of Systems Marketing
India Pvt. Ltd, a Private business with interests in Manufacturing, Investment
Banking and Trading.
A well-recognized speaker at prestigious forums Globally, Parag has been
an Executive Committee Member to CII, FICCI and American Alumni Association.
He is also part of CII National Healthcare Council. Parag has also been
recognized by Economics Times and Spencer Stuart as India’s Top leaders
in 40 under 40 programme and was featured in Anniversary Issue of “India
Today” as well. Parag has been associated with NGOs and is founder of “Executive
Without Borders’ an NGO based in USA.
